Merge Multiple Excel Workbooks Into One

When you have data spread across several Excel files, finding and comparing information becomes tedious and error-prone. This tool combines multiple workbooks into a single .xlsx file with each source sheet from every workbook becoming its own sheet in the combined output. No data is lost — every row from every sheet is preserved exactly as it appears in the original files including dates, numbers, and text values.

How Merging Works

• Sheet naming — Each output sheet keeps its original name whenever possible. If two sheets from different workbooks share the same name, a numeric suffix is added automatically to avoid conflicts, for example "Sales_1" and "Sales_2".
• Filename prefix — Enable the "Prefix each sheet with its source filename" option to prepend the source filename to every sheet name. This makes it easy to trace data back to its origin file, which is especially useful when the same sheet names appear across multiple workbooks.
• Sheet name safety — Special characters that Excel does not allow in sheet names such as brackets, colons, asterisks, question marks, and slashes are automatically removed. Sheet names are also trimmed to 31 characters which is the Excel maximum limit.

When to Use This Tool

This tool is perfect for consolidating monthly reports into a yearly workbook, combining department budgets into a master financial document, merging survey data collected in separate files, or any scenario where you need a single workbook to serve as the central source of truth. The merge preserves all cell values but does not carry over formatting or formulas — only the computed values are transferred. Note that all files must use the .xlsx, .xlsm, or .xls format.
